A warm welcome awaits any new members to the Gardening group of U3A meeting every other Friday 2pm - 3.30pm at the Ash Community Centre.

Gardening group held six sessions in the Ash Centre since Sept.
Subjects  covered were Major pests and how to control them, and where to look stem, or leaf. One of the group presented a look at the herbs to grow both for culinary, and medicinal use and  which country they originaly came from.
We had a DVD from the resource centre on Traditional Gardening Tips.
Then came a visit to Horsell Allotments where David Innes gave us all a conducted tour pointing out some of the difficulties, and some of the success in the  cultivation of veg.
We held two quizzes with two teams pitted against each other which brought much laughter.
The pigments within leaves was discussed and how the lovely reds and yellows appear on what was a green leaf!
Lastly after long discussions we submitted to the owner (a U3A member) how she could improve her back garden on a limited budget, and listed the jobs to tackle in the coming seasons.  She had been considering this for some time and didn't know where to start, so was very pleased with the class suggestions.
Plants have been available at silly prices, however  it swells our kitty  there may be enough to buy the wine for our Xmas lunch together.

We meet again on Friday 13th January at the Ash Centre starting prompt at 2pm until 3.30pm.
