THE HEALTHY WALKING GROUP ASH
2010 NEWSLETTER NO. 2

The following Notes are very Important for our personal safety

Please remember the leader of the walks should always be in front of the group

Pavements (Including any path along the side of a road) should be used if provided where possible, avoid being next to the kerb with your back to the traffic. If you have to step into the road look both ways first. Always show care and consideration for others.
If there is no pavement, keep to the right-hand side of the road so that you can see oncoming traffic. You should take extra care and
Be prepared to walk in single file especially on narrow roads or in
poor light keep close to the side of the road.
It may be safer to cross the road well before a sharp right-hand bend so that oncoming traffic has a better chance of seeing you . Cross back after the bend.
Organised walks. Large groups of people walking together if there is no pavement should always be in single file and take notice of the Leader of the walk. Look-outs should be at the front and back of the group wearing Fluorescent jackets.
On a double bend it is advisable for the lookouts to be in position prior to the group crossing the road. We hope that all members of our group will be self disciplined and take notice of this advice from the Highway Code.
Our thanks to all the members who are leading the walks we are grateful for there support and we wish you all happy and healthy walking. Remember we walk at our own risk so please take care.
