Activity

We are a group of amateur historians interested in how ordinary people lived rather than the great topics of national and political history. We study a period of time and within that period each member presents a short talk about a topic of interest to them followed by a discussion based on that topic. However, there is no compulsion to prepare a talk as joining in the discussion is equally important.

If you are interested in how life was for real people in the past, come along to a meeting or preferably phone Jane on 01252 311498 first. New members are always welcome.

In 2009/10 we are studying the period 1914-1939 and our topics will be:

October 8th – Education (and childhood in general) November 12th – Holidays December 10th – Music January 14th – Cheshire silk mills February 11th – Poetry and a bit of literature March 11th – Theatre April 8th – Outing (Brooklands was suggested. Other ideas welcome) May 13th – Railways June 10th and July 8th - To be confirmed.

As we have so many members now it is likely that this time period will continue into 2010/11 with may other topics being covered.
